The Vallejo Arts Fund provides grants to Vallejo-rooted artists, cultural bearers, collectives, and organizations that support arts and cultural practices and work in Vallejo, CA from a broad range of life experiences and perspectives.
The Vallejo Arts Fund (VAF) will distribute $1,000,000 over the next two years to support arts & culture in Vallejo by beginning to address structural inequities that have impacted historically excluded artists, culture bearers, arts organizers, and their communities. The Fund seeks to support artistic and cultural work within the performing arts, visual arts, digital and media arts, traditional folk arts, and oral/written storytelling. VAF deeply appreciates the healing aspects of art and that many of us are in fact healers. However, we are not currently seeking applications for healing arts practices.
The Vallejo Arts Fund is guided by the priorities of Vallejoans and is currently receiving feedback from previous grantees, applicants, and community to offer input towards the next round of Vallejo Arts Fund grant categories, priorities, panel process and more. OUR VALUES
The Vallejo Arts Fund respects and values Vallejoan artists and cultural bearers. The Fund is grounded in the voices of Vallejo’s diverse communities and their lived experiences as artists, culture bearers, and arts organizers. Many have shared the impacts of gentrification, exclusionary and racist practices, and the historical lack of support for culturally rooted arts and traditions in the city. Therefore, VAF values diversity, inclusion, and equity around race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, ability, socio-economic status, artistic genre, experience, and regional lived experiences. Just as important is VAF’s approach - we enter this opportunity with humility, centering respect for all, an environment of mutual learning, collective and deep relational practices, transparency, and action-based care. VAF recognizes that any new effort takes patience, time, and care.
WE BELIEVE
We believe it is necessary for artists, culture bearers, and artist organizers from across Vallejo’s diverse communities to be included in the outreach, grantmaking, and decision-making processes.
Artists, culture bearers, and artist organizers who reflect Vallejo’s rich cultural diversity are vital innovators who add tangible value to the city, and must be invested in, nurtured, and cultivated.
Vallejo’s art is urgent and should be more widely funded across the city, particularly in communities at risk of displacement, to preserve cultural vibrancy and continuity.
Local cultural ways of being, knowing, and creating ground the cultural practices and expansive artistic expressions that support community resiliency and self-determination.
Vallejo artists have a right to accessible spaces to practice their artistic/cultural work locally and safely.
The struggle is real.
Vallejo Arts Fund otorga becas para artistas, agentes culturales, colectivos y organizaciones que tengan raíces en Vallejo, que apoyen las prácticas artísticas y culturales y que trabajen en Vallejo, California, desde una amplia gama de experiencias y perspectivas de vida.
Vallejo Arts Fund (VAF) distribuirá $1,000,000 durante los próximos dos años para apoyar las artes y la cultura de Vallejo, comenzando por abordar las desigualdades estructurales que han excluido históricamente a artistas, agentes culturales, promotores artísticos y a sus comunidades. Vallejo Arts Fund respeta y valora a sus artistas y agentes culturales que residen en Vallejo. VAF se basa en las voces de las diversas comunidades de Vallejo y en sus experiencias vividas como artistas, agentes culturales y promotores artísticos. Muchos han experimentado el impacto de la gentrificación, prácticas excluyentes y racistas, además de la histórica falta de apoyo a las artes y tradiciones culturalmente arraigadas en la ciudad. Por ello, VAF valora la diversidad, la inclusión y la equidad en torno a las etnias, géneros, sexualidad, edad, capacidad, nivel socioeconómico, género artístico, experiencia y vivencias regionales. Los artistas, agentes culturales y promotores artísticos que reflejan la rica diversidad cultural de Vallejo, son innovadores vitales que aportan un valor tangible a la ciudad y deben ser apoyados, cuidados y cultivados.
El arte de Vallejo es urgente y debe ser financiado en toda la ciudad con mayor amplitud, especialmente en comunidades bajo riesgo de ser desplazadas, preservando así su vitalidad y continuidad cultural.
El modo de ser local, en términos culturales, de conocimiento y creatividad, son las bases expansivas que asientan las prácticas culturales y sus expresiones artísticas, apoyando la resiliencia comunitaria y la autodeterminación.
Los artistas de Vallejo tienen derecho a contar con espacios accesibles para practicar su trabajo artístico/cultural de forma local y segura.
