Memory and Return

Join us for the debut concert and vinyl album release of Memory and Return, a powerful
musical tribute to East L.A. featuring David Hidalgo of Los Lobos and members of the Grammy-winning band Quetzal.

This free event blends live music, storytelling, and visuals to celebrate generations of culture and memory from the historic neighborhood. The concert is produced by Visions and Voices at the University of Southern California.

Great Leap is proud to partner on a special post-concert panel discussing the album’s deep cultural roots.

Post-concert Discussion with Panelists Includes:
Moderator, Josh Kun
– Vice Provost for the Arts at the University of Southern California
Martha Gonzalez – MacArthur Fellow, Composer/Producer of Memory & Return, Grammy-winning musician, Chicana feminist theorist, and artivista
Ofelia Esparza – NEA National Heritage Fellow, altarista, and East LA elder, storyteller on the album
Akira Boch – Emmy-winning filmmaker currently documenting East LA’s cultural legacy with the upcoming “Let the City Speak”

The panel is supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, committed to building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world. More information at macfound.org.
