Since 1995, Great Leap has presented the Arts and Yoga for Youth summer arts program for University of Southern California’s Upward Bound through its intensive five-week summer residential component. Working collaboratively with Upward Bound and the International Association of Black Yoga Teachers, Great Leap has designed a series of workshops in yoga, martial arts and performing arts which compliments Upward Bound’s academic “boot camp” servicing 130 young people each year.

Upward Bound was established at the University of Southern California in June 1977. Since its inception, the program has provided services to over 1,200 participants. The Upward Bound program helps young adults prepare for higher education. Teens participate in an intensive six-week summer residential
experience. The summer residential component provides needs assessment, academic instruction, and tutoring .

The Upward Bound program presently serves youth from the following high schools: Crenshaw, Dorsey, Fremont, Jefferson, Los Angeles and Manual Arts.
