TO ALL RELATIONS…

Great Leap Invites You Into A Story Sharing Circle
"We believe our stories are a way of revealing our interconnections and moving our world towards peace."

On May 8, 2004, Great Leap held a “work-in-progress” performance of “To All Relations: Sacred Moon Songs,” based on the common experiences of American Muslim, Mexican and Japanese American communities, and the spiritual traditions that sustain us. Great Leap’s community performers used poetry, music and movement to share and examine the profound links in their personal and collective experiences.

Following a Q&A Feedback Session and Community Discussion moderated by Gisele Fong, Ph.D, audeince members shared and heared stories of their own and friends/families’ experiences with relocation, repatriation and deportation.

“To All Relations: Sacred Moon Songs” is a collaborative work by community and professional artists, directed by Nobuko Miyamoto and Rubén Funkahuatl Guevara. Created and performed by Victoria Bernal, Mitsuko Cannon, Nader Elmakawi, Masanori Ishihara, Tomomi Kanemaru, Vincent Kobelt, Jo Anna Mixpe Ley, Hiroshi Murakawa, Ariel Robello, and Michael Yanagita.

Nobuko Miyamoto, Artistic Director of Great Leap said, “All three communities play an integral role in LA’s vibrant cultural life, but few opportunities exist for the three groups to hear each other’s stories. This project provides that opportunity.”

Since 1998, Great Leap has led “To All Relations” community residencies in Watts, Phoenix, San Jose, Detroit and Boyle Heights. Great Leap is a Los Angeles based multicultural performing arts organization dedicated to creating and presenting original works in theater, music and dance.
