In this Circle
by Najeeba Syeed-Miller
(for those who hold their pain, and others, for my sisters and brothers of the "Breaking the Fast" performance.)
I cut open
a piece of myself
Bleeding,
the wound is lapped
Up, and closed
In this circle,
no drop falls unheard.
Trickling,
sticking, glaring,
parrying
not with one another,
such battles left at the door step
Wicked, warring, fox hole
minded, trickster sowing
seeds of
deceit,
not in this circle.
Prayer past and future
stirring in my womb
a child, struggles,
moving. I feel his hands
encasing my whale boned
body,
he is safe in this circle.
Limb and life
will not be hacked
he will live on.
in this circle.
I am shielding his
forming hands and eyes
covering his minute, transculent
webbing with the love
in this circle.
Before, my fear to create
pro-create, co-create
reverberate with mother tones
was silenced.
But in this circle,
I can let him out,
from his dark warm world
born with blood,
he will not be fighting
for his breath, beaten nor ripped
from my breast and arm.
I am telling you
I am writing to live.
The world will wait no longer
for her prophets to be born,
no immaculate conception of
purity will save it.
God has come down
god is here, god is in this circle.
