Artist and Community Workshops
Senshin Buddhist Temple was the site of Warm Up Workshop gatherings to prepare Great Leap staff and artists for the coming challenge in Watts. Artistic Director Nobuko Miyamoto leads community participants through breathing and visualization exercises in January 2002.
"From The Ground Up!" workshop gatherings with food to all who participate. Happy thanks giving.
Community work involves humans at all levels. Often the work that adult supporters do is unseen. This humble work is essential to the creative process. When the youth are highlighted and encouraged by a creative program it is due in part to the silent support of active adults that work together. Great Leap organized Warm Up Workshops and Demonstrations to introduce new techniques and gather feedback. The many adults who contributed to the workshops and culminating celebration came together for progress.
Active adults are a real source of support for all healthy youth activities. Here we gather at the Watts Labor Community Action Committee with their staff for a demonstration of creative teaching techniques in February 2002.
This project is supported in part by the California Arts Council, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, Friends of Great Leap, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Los Angeles Times, The Ralph's Food4Less Foundation, The Aaroe Associates Charitable Foundation, Sara Lee Fresh/ International Baking Co., Hitachi, Ltd., FIA Insurance Services, and the Friends of Great Leap. Great Leap is a participant in the New Generations Program, funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation/The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and administered by Theatre Communications Group, the national organization for the American Theatre.
