GREAT LEAP : ARTISTS : OMOWALE ORISAYOMI
Omowale Orisayomi, dancer and Assistant Director of the Nigerian Talking Drum Ensemble, studied at California Institute of the Arts and has a B.A. Degree from Spelman College in Georgia. She has studied Ghanaian dance under the tutelage of Kobla and Dzizobe Ledzekpo. Later, she was coached in the Yoruba style by Francis Awe and soon began to dance with him. In 1985, Francis Awe established the Nigerian Talking Drum Ensemble and Omowale has been dancing with him since its inception. Omowale performed in the first “To All Relations” concert in 1997. |
