GREAT LEAP : ARTISTS : JESSE ACUÑA
Jesse Acuña is a percussionist, vocalist, and composer and is currently working and recording with Asian American singer-songwriter, Nobuko and teaching percussion at Pedrini Music in Alhambra. He has recorded and toured with Hiroshima as the lead vocalist and songwriter. Acuña has also played with Meia Noite and the Midnight Drums, Cheremoya Escola de Samba, Ballet Folclorico do Brasil, Viver Brasil, Swing Brasil, Afro-Latin jazz band, Carbana, L.A. Samba, and Leilani Chan and Teada Productions. He has studied with Raimundo B. dos Santos- Mestre Kent and was a special guest with Companhia Brasileira de Dancas Populares in Salvador, Bahia, Brasil. He performed with Bahian pop band, Bragada in Bahias 1995 Carnival. Acuña has taught at UCLA and Stanford University and frequently leads group and individual percussion workshops at Kidspace Museum in Pasadena, Youth First Arts Program in South Central L.A., Cheremoya Escola de Samba in Hollywood, the Autry Museum, and at elementary and secondary schools throughout California. Additionally, Acuña leads drum circles for music enthusiasts of all ages. Acuña has been performing with Great Leap for many years. |
