In 1973 we could not predict the future but we hoped that through our work we could change the future for the better. Many of the things we proposed have been validated by the passing years. Stated simply; that the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam conflict was wrong, that racial injustice must be fought whenever and wherever it appears, that the Americans of African, Native American, Asian and Latino descent must work together for positive political change, and that Asian Pacific Americans have a long history of contributing to this nation’s development and growth, and a right to be here without cultural submission or compromising their identity.
On the other hand, the revolution we innocently believed would eventually overthrow the capitalist system never actually came about. For those who had accepted my assurances at that time and have been waiting impatiently, I personally apologize.
