Calvin Jung was born and raised in N.Y.C. where he attended high school, Military prep school in Virginia, and Hillsdale College in Michigan, lettering in football, basketball, baseball, and wrestling. He was introduced to theatre at college, and decided to pursue acting as a career.

He has appeared in Broadway with THE PHOENIX REPERTORY THEATRE 1976 season in “Memory of Two Mondays” and “They knew what they wanted.” “Sly Fox” with George C. Scott. OFF-BROADWAY, he originated Dale in David Henry Hwang’s “FOB,” and “Museum” at N.Y. Public Theatre, “Dawn Song” at The Brooklyn Academy, “Chickencoop Chinaman” at The American Place Theatre. He spent two years in Rep. at La Mama Experimental Theatre, where he was responsible for getting Asian American Repertory Theatre involved with La Mama.

Among the films he has co-starred: THE FORMULA with Marlon Brando, and George C. Scott. THE CHALLENGE with Toshiro Mifune. THE DAY AFTER with Jason Robards, and ROBOCOP. He has appeared on TV in: MURDER SHE WROTE, CHEERS, TRAPPER JOHN, etc. Not to mention 3 TV pilots, which never went to series. He has a son Jason, who is a novelist who lives in N.Y. His piece, “GUYS LIKE ME” was written by his wife and soulmate Louise Mita Jung.

“Guys Like Me” is a story about a 3rd generation Chinese-American kid growing up with conflicting messages and obstacles about being American. His cultural roots help him overcome some of life’s adversities. “Guys Like Me” is a physical piece that uses Calvin Jung’s experiences with “kung fu” and “football” in a humorous and entertaining manner.

Jung is a featured performer with Great Leap’s productions of “A Slice of Rice” and “A Slice of Rice, Frijoles and Greens.”
