Donna H. Ebata (President)
is the Sales and Promotion Manager for Meissner Manufacturing Company and Project Administrator for the Department of Economics at University of Southern California. She has been an active member of Kinnara Taiko at Senshin Buddhist Temple for over twenty years. She was the Administrative Director of Great Leap from 1987-1996 and currently serves as President of the Board of Directors.

Tarabu Betserai Kirkland (Vice-President) is a writer, musician, producer and non-profit management consultant. He is the former General Manager of radio station KPFK. Since 1989, he has worked for a number of local municipalities, state organizations and community based organizations as a cultural planner, organizational development consultant, facilitator, fundraiser and producer.

Gisele L. Fong (Secretary/Treasurer) has taught courses in Asian American Studies at UCLA, Santa Monica College, California State University Long Beach, and California State University Northridge. She holds a Master’s degree from UCLA’s Program in Asian American Studies and a Ph.D. in History.

Joni Byun is Senior Vice President of Nakatomi & Associates, Inc., where she is responsible for strategic communications, project oversight and management, media relations, community outreach, special events management, and overall client relations. Prior to joining the firm in 1996, she served as Program Coordinator for the Korean American Coalition.

Nobuko Miyamoto is the Founder and Artistic Director of Great Leap and has served in that capacity since 1978. She is a performing artist, director, playwright, songwriter and producer whose songs, theater works, and dances aim to create community wherever she is. She was recently honored by the Leadership for a Changing World award by the Ford Foundation.

Charles McClung, Jr. is an attorney specializing in tax law. A dedicated yoga enthusiast, Charles supports local community concerns by supplying his expertise to several non-profit organizations, including the radio station KPFK. Charles is Great Leap’s legal advisor has served on the Board of Directors for more than fifteen years.

Nora Ramos is a community organizer and human rights advocate who travels extensively throughout South America and Europe with organizations such as Amnesty International. She is a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona. Nora previously worked at the Asian Pacific American Legal Center as the Hate Crimes Coordinator and as Great Leap’s Administrative Assistant.

Michael Kazuo Yanagita has worked as a chiropractor for 21 years and as an acupuncturist for 5 years. He has been involved with the Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress 9/11 Committee since the candlelight vigil immediately after 9/11. He began working with Great Leap at the Breaking the Fast at Senshin Buddhist Temple in 2003, and is a participant in the Great Leap residency project, “To All Relations: Sacred Moon Songs.”
