Sergio's Perspective

By Sergio Diaz

“The Aloha to the Neighborhood” mural has been a positive experience in my life. I was luckily introduced to community based art by being able to contribute to this project with ideas for the theme, as well as the design and with the execution of the mural. I have also learned many things about the surrounding community as a result of my involvement. I have enhanced my knowledge of the people and the community from various members who have shared their personal experiences with me.

I feel privileged to have been part of this project and I am thankful to all the volunteers, other people who have contributed and especially to Jenni Kuida and Tony Osumi who were kind enough to give me this opportunity.

When people look at this mural, I hope that they not only see the mural but also realize that many people made an effort to come together and produce something beautiful for this neighborhood. I want people to enjoy themural and wish that it encourages them to participate and organize their own projects.

Sergio Diaz was the Assistant Production Coordinator for the Mural. His beautiful blending and shading can be found throughout the mural. He was invaluable in the design process and on the volunteer painting days.
