GREAT LEAP : ARTISTS : ALISON DE LA CRUZ

Alison De La Cruz is a poet, playwright, performance artist, event producer and ‘ate’ (older sister). De La Cruz has performed her successful one-woman show "Sungka" to sold-out houses throughout the West Coast, including the David Henry Hwang Theater in Los Angeles and Bindlestiff Studio in San Francisco.

An experienced facilitator and presenter, De La Cruz is frequently invited to perform and speak at colleges and universities including UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Northridge, Loyola Marymount University, Pitzer College, Scripps College, Claremont Graduate School, the University of Puget Sound and Pomona College.

Engaged in the play of the Filipino shell game Sungka, De La Cruz explores a breadth of issues at the intersections of biracial Filipino American bi-queer woman of color identities. With humor and poignant honesty, this eclectic mix of spoken word, stories, song and movement maps everything from SPAM to the dreams of an Olympic hopeful.

Alison is a featured performer with Great Leap’s productions of "A Slice of Rice, Frijoles and Greens."
